Formulation Concept Sprint ยท Women’s-health products
Design a product that’s credible and compliant – by design, not by luck.
An evidence-based formulation concept for your new or reformulated women’s-health product: the right ingredients, forms and doses, the mechanism behind them, and the science for every choice, built so it actually works and can be legally claimed in the UK & EU.
For founders building or reformulating a supplement, skincare or functional-food product. You bring the idea and the target customer and I bring the evidence and the compliant design.
Why it matters
Most products are formulated backwards โ and it’s expensive to discover it after launch.
Designing the formula right the first time is far cheaper than reformulating, relabelling, or pulling a launch.
What it is
A focused sprint that turns your product idea into a defensible formula.
In plain terms: you have a product idea and a customer in mind. I translate that into an evidence-based formulation concept – which ingredients, in which forms, at which doses, and why – designed from the start to be both effective and legally claimable. It’s the blueprint you hand to a manufacturer, backed by the science.
What’s included โ and what isn’t
Clear scope, so you know exactly what you’re buying.
Included
- Ingredient selection with a rationale for each choice
- Forms and doses grounded in the published evidence
- Mechanism of action โ why the formula does what it claims
- Claim-feasibility: what you’ll legally be able to say about it
- Regulatory red-flag check on every ingredient (Novel Food, restricted substances)
- A reference pack โ the studies behind the concept
Not included
- Lab samples or prototypes
- Stability testing
- Manufacturing R&D or production
- Formal cosmetic safety sign-off (CPSR) โ referred to a qualified assessor
This is the concept and evidence rationale โ the build-ready blueprint. Physical development happens with your manufacturer or formulator, using this as the brief.
How it works
A tight, focused process โ that’s why it’s a sprint.
Scoping call
Your product idea, target customer, positioning and market. Any must-have ingredients or constraints.
Evidence & ingredient research
I map candidate ingredients to the published evidence and to what’s legally claimable in the UK/EU โ surfacing red flags early.
The concept
I design the formulation rationale: ingredients, forms, doses and mechanism, each with its โwhyโ and its source.
Walkthrough
We review it together. You leave with a build-ready, defensible concept you can take straight to a manufacturer.
What you get
A blueprint your manufacturer can build from.
Everything delivered as a clear, referenced document โ not a verbal handover.
- Formulation rationale document โ ingredients, forms, doses, mechanism, and the reasoning for each
- Reference pack โ the studies behind every choice
- Claim-feasibility notes โ what you can legally say about the product
- Early red-flags โ Novel Food and restricted-ingredient issues surfaced before you commit
Price & where it fits
One fixed price, confirmed in your proposal.
Where it sits in the journey: often paired with a Claims Compliance Audit (fix the words) and an Evidence Dossier (to substantiate your hero claim). Start here when you’re building or reformulating a product from the ground up.
Who it’s for
Two moments this is built for.
You’re building something new
A founder creating a new women’s-health supplement, skincare or functional-food product, who wants it evidence-based and legally claimable from day one โ not patched up after launch.
You’re reformulating
A brand fixing an existing product โ often after an audit flagged that the star ingredient can’t carry the claim, is under-dosed, or isn’t legal to sell as-is.
Questions
Good to know.
Do you make the physical product or provide samples?
No. The sprint delivers the concept and the evidence rationale โ the build-ready blueprint. You (or your contract manufacturer) turn it into a physical product; lab samples, stability testing and manufacturing R&D sit with them. I give them a brief they can actually build from.
Will the claims be guaranteed compliant?
I design for claim-feasibility and flag exactly what’s legally sayable, so you don’t build a product around a claim you can’t make. Final claim wording is confirmed through a Claims Compliance Audit or Evidence Dossier โ I’m not a lawyer and don’t offer legal guarantees, but you’ll never be blindsided.
What do I need to bring?
Your product idea, your target customer and positioning, your market (UK, EU, or both), and any must-have ingredients or constraints. That’s enough to start.
Supplements only โ or skincare and food too?
All three women’s-health categories: food supplements, skincare/cosmetics, and functional foods & beverages. Each has its own rules, and the sprint accounts for the right ones.
Can you handle the safety file (CPSR) for a cosmetic?
Formal CPSR sign-off is done by a qualified safety assessor. I’ll prepare the concept and evidence and refer you to a trusted assessor for the signature, so it joins up cleanly.
